One of the neat things about tartans is that you don't need to be Scottish or Irish to "have" one, OR enjoy them!

There are DOZENS of tartans that have been created to commemorate countries, cities, states, companies, military branches, even brands of whisky, in addition to the thousands that exist for "clans" or family surnames.

The UNIVERSAL tartans have been created for EVERYONE, and many are extremely attractive. Other Universal tartans have been created for people of German or Italian heritage - there's truly a tartan for just about EVERYONE!!!

Irish tartans are a bit different than Scottish tartans, because they have been created for the Irish Counties, or "districts". If you go to the Irish District page, you'll see a list of the families that haied from each county/district according to the 1890 census records.
