What is a"Partan"? - A"Partan" is a TARTAN pattern that has been specially modified with personalized text to be used in a TartanGolfGrips.com golf grip.
"Partans" combine the beauty of the Tartan pattern, with the personalization and uniqueness available by having the clan or family surname, first name, initials, or other custom text applied to the tartan design, creating a beautiful piece of functional artwork that enhances the appearance of your putter or golf club(s).
How do I install my TartanGolfGrips.com Partan design?
(First, please read the NOTES below...)

Installation instruction summary:
*** Your local golf club technician will usually install grips for you for a nominal fee, usually around $5 or less. We STRONGLY encourage you to have a trained professional install your new grip for you. If you want to do it yourself, it is VERY helpful to have a vise on a workbench, a shaft clamp and a sharp utility knife. ***
For you thrifty Scottish-style "do-it-yourselfers" out there, however...
1- Remove old grip (BE CAREFUL with sharp objects) and clean shaft of all tape and residue as best as possible. (See detailed instructions for "built-up" shaft instructions.)
2,3,4,5,6 - Remove label from backing and align label on shaft. Allow 1/4”- 1/2” overlap to be pushed into open end of shaft.
7,8 - Squirt a generous amount of HAIRSPRAY ONLY (any inexpensive AEROSOL brand) into open grip and drip across label. If the label isn't completely covered, spray more hairspray across the label one time, manking sure that the label is evenly damp.
9,10,11,12 - After grip is installed and aligned, allow grip to dry before use (approximately one hour).
Note: * To clean the grip, use ONLY water and a towel.
** The use of other solvents for installation is NOT RECOMMENDED, as they may damage the grip or label.
DETAILED INSTRUCTIONS:
Use a grip removal tool to remove the old grip. (PLEASE BE CAREFUL with sharp objects!)
After the shaft is cleared of the old grip and the tape or glue, the label is removed from the backing to be applied directly to the shaft. There are some grip tapes that do not come off very easily. It is not a problem if you apply the label over the old tape as long as the old tape is generally smooth and provides aneven surface.
It is also possible to build up the shaft with tape before applying the label. The additional tape may not allow the label to wrap completely around the shaft. If this occurs, a seam may be visible showing the build up tape. Doing so will result in a slightly larger grip.
Allowing about 1/4”-1/2” of the label to extend past the end of the shaft, carefully center the label on the shaft. If the label is placed at the top of the shaft first, this will allow the bottom of the label to be lined up with greater success on the first attempt.
If the label is not placed properly initially, remove slowly and begin again.
Once the label is in place, wrap the label around the shaft, one side at a time, by starting in the middle of the label and working to the edge of the label and repeating for the other side of the label. Occasionally a bubble will occur due to a change in the diameter of the shaft or by not wrapping the label properly. This is generally not a problem since the bubble will disappear when the grip is installed. While most of the labels are imaged in the front of the grip, any bubble outside this region will not be cause for concern.
HAIRSPRAY (the cheapest pump spray works best) is THE *ONLY* solvent to be used for installation. (Either pump or aerosol will suffice, but pump allows for better coverage.) Pour a generous amount into the open end of the grip (remember to plug the air hole with a fingertip), then spray the entire length of the label even more generously, and squeeze the open end of the grip together and push onto the shaft at an angle of about 45-90 degrees to the shaft.
Push grip completely on and wipe away excess hairspray. (PLEASE NOTE- Take care to make sure that you do not push the shaft through the butt of the grip.
Occasionally the grip will not go completely on. The use of an air compressor with 40-60 psi will allow you to either remove the grip and start over or push the grip completely on. Make sure the nozzle of the air compressor is placed against the hole in the grip cap before attempting this. The use of a protective sleeve (old golf club bag tube or pvc) is suggested for safety reasons.
Once the grip is completely installed, align the grip and allow one hour for the grip to dry. If it is not completely dry, wait until it is before using.
***NOTE***: The grip material, Vulcathene, is NOT to be installed with any of the usual grip solvents. Traditional grip solvents WILL damage the grip and will void any warranties. *** USE HAIRSPRAY ONLY - AND LOTS OF IT - are we CLEAR???
*** USER NOTE: TartanGolfGrips.com recommends that you have your grips installed for you at a professional grip installer (at a golf pro shop, such as your local golf pro's shop, or at a chain store like GolfSmith, Austads, Edwin Watts, Sports Authority or Dick's Sporting Goods), as the job is made SIGNIFICANTLY easier with the right tools and equipment. This includes a bench vise, a shaft clamp FOR the vise and a sharp utility knife.
WE CANNOT BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE THAT YOU INFLICT UPON YOURSELF, YOUR CLUB(S), OR ANY OF YOUR OTHER POSESSIONS IF YOU CHOOSE TO INSTALL YOUR GRIPS YOURSELF.
WE WILL NOT REPLACE ANY GRIPS OR DESIGNS IF THEY ARE DAMAGED OR ADVERSELY AFFECTED DURING INSTALLATION. WE ONLY SELL THE GRIPS - HOW YOU CHOOSE TO INSTALL THEM IS YOUR CHOICE, AND YOU BEAR ALL LIABILITY AND RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR CHOSEN METHOD OF INSTALLATION. Thank you! ***
